Baxie’s Musical Podcast: Roger Clark Miller from Mission of Burma

This week on Baxie’s Musical podcast I’ll talk to the legendary Roger Clark Miller—formerly of the highly influential Boston-based Mission of Burma. While their time together was relatively short, Mission of Burma’s influence in was undeniable. Formed in 1979, Mission of Burma would release two incredible records including the 1981 EP “Signals Calls & Marches” as well as their only full-length studio album, “Vs.” from 1983. Since then, Roger has released some astonishingly creative and experimental music of his own. From adapting music for silent films, creating experimental prepared piano pieces, tape loops, or setting musical scores for his own dream interpretations, Roger’s curiosity and imagination seem endless. This included his work with Birdsongs of the Mesozoic, The Alloy Orchestra, The Solo Electric Guitar Ensemble, or with his band The Binary System (later The Trinary System). All of this while suffering from a 40-year battle with tinnitus. Roger has just released his latest album, “The Green Man”. It’s being called a slight return to more traditional song structures. I just prefer to call it a fantastic new record that I’ve been unable to stop listening to since it came out! Some of his best work in years! Roger talks about that, the band, their 2004 reformation, and about his long-term battle with tinnitus. Listen on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, and the Rock102 app.
