This week Baxie talks with Paul Rappaport—the former Vice President of Rock Promotion for Columbia Records! For 33 years Paul built an amazing track record of single handedly getting some of the most legendary recording artists in history on the radio, into the charts, and selling records by the millions. Pink Floyd, Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Bill Joel, Aerosmith, Journey, Santana, Judas Priest, Alice in Chains, Psychedelic Furs, and countless others owe a great deal of their success to Paul’s work at Columbia. The man is a true record industry legend. Paul has just released what is perhaps the single most accurate account of the wild relationship between radio and the record industry in the 1970’s, 80’s, and early 90’s ever written in his new book “Gliders Over Hollywood: Airships, Airplay, and the Art of Rock Promotion”. As someone who lived through those days, I can tell you with 100% confidence that it EXACTLY how things used to be! If you listen to one episode of BAXIES MUSICAL PODCAST this year…listen to this one too! Just amazing! Listen on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, and on the Rock102 app!
