Baxie’s Musical Podcast: Leonard Graves Phillips from The Dickies? Is this the End of The Dickies?

This week on Baxie’s Musical Podcast my guest is Leonard Graves Phillips–the legendary lead singer for The Dickies! After nearly 50 years The Dickies are putting the final touches on what is said to be their final album. While The Dickies have often been referred to as “The Clown Princes of Punk” I would aggressively argue that Leonard and guitarist Stan Lee are nothing short of a national treasure! In fact, since 1977 The Dickies have been one of the musically talented and entertaining punk bands in America. In fact, I’ll go even further than that. The Dickies are one of the most overlooked bands of all time. While they may be better known for their classic covers of Black Sabbath, Zeppelin, and the Moody Blues (as well as their amazing version of the Banana Splits theme song), it’s their original material that rivals some of the best power pop songs anywhere. What I’m trying to tell you is…I LOVE THE FREAKING DICKIES!

Leonard has just released an amazing memoir, “The Dickies and Me”. It’s a book loaded with stories that are hilarious, entertaining, disturbing, and frightening at the same time. The book also comes with a 7-inch single of previously unreleased music! I’ve been wanting to talk with Leonard about The Dickies for years. And in a VERY rare podcast interview I finally get my chance. And as you’ll hear, the results were fantastic! Listen on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, and on the Rock102 app!
