This week Baxie talks with bass player Darryl Jenifer from Bad Brains—the most important and revered hardcore band in history! But don’t be fooled by the label! Bad Brains were a band out of Washington DC whose roots were steeped in both reggae and jazz fusion. And yet, Bad Brains were the band that every other hardcore band looked up to. And while some may have focused on their wild musicianship, speed, and precision—the real important part of this band was its message of unity and positivity. And that may have been what separated Bad Brains from just about everybody else.

Darryl has just released his second jazz-inspired solo album called “Weather Channel”. It’s an album that includes some amazing jazz heavyweights (John Modeski, Ben Perowsky, the late Jack DeJohnette, and several others). The record also draws from funk, dub, and psychedelia as well. He also tosses in a couple of re-arranged Bad Brains classics as well. Darryl talks about the record, the legacy of Bad Brains, about the misunderstandings of their lead singer HR, and much more!
