Really, it’s not that Cold..

Join your local Law Enforcement officers for the areas 1st ever Polar Plunge for the Special Olympics. This marks the 1st time that the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) program has brought this Nationwide fundraising event to the Greater Springfield area. All proceeds from the Polar Plunge will go directly to Special Olympics Massachusetts to provide year-round sports training and competition in 24 Olympic-type sports for athletes with intellectual disabilities. In tradition with the other LETR Polar Plunges held nationwide, the Ludlow plunge will feature awards for “Top Fundraiser”, “Top Fundraising Cool School Team” and “Best Costume”. That’s right COSTUME. We want you to dress in the best costume you can come up with so you stand out. The event is as much about awareness as it is about raising money. The louder you wardrobe the more people will take notice.  “Cool School” teams are comprised of members from any high school, middle school, college, trade school etc… that have put a fundraising team together and are going to plunge together. It’s a great way to show your school spirit and help out with this great cause. Any participant who raises $100.00 or more will receive a commemorative long-sleeve Polar Plunge t-shirt. Registration can be done online at ludlowpolarplunge.kintera.org or in person the day of the event.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) program is a partnership between local police and Special Olympics that focuses on raising much needed funds and awareness. Dedicated members of the LETR along with the Ludlow Fire dept have organized this Polar Plunge at Haviland Pond in Ludlow on February 15, 2014. The event will kick off with registration at Ludlow High School at 9:00 AM. Participants will be shuttled to Haviland Pond where the fundraising awards will be handed out. Then the fun really starts. One by one and team by team Plungers will march across the frozen pond to a hole cut in the ice were they will fulfill there frosty commitment by leaping in to the icy waters of Haviland Pond. Ludlow Fire Departments water rescue team will be on hand in the water during the event. Plunge will begin at approximately 10:30 AM.
