Most of the world says T.G.I.F. ,  for police officers work just gets busier....

....two "carjackings to report on ....

At 9:00 P.M. on 02/05 a 32 year old male victim claims that while he was stopped at a red light on Orange Street in his 1998 purple Plymouth Minivan,
MA REG. 9052 CT, he heard a voice yell at him "Hey"! and as he turned he was struck on the left side of his head. The drivers side window happened to be down when it was sub-zero out. The victim claims that he blacked out and was brought back to consciousness by a ringing cell phone. The borrowed Minivan he was driving was gone ?? Remarkably nobody on busy Orange Street reported a man passed out on the side of the road on a bitter cold night. Instead of calling the cops on his cell phone he walked back to house on Bradley Road. Then he called the police. ( I know everybody reading this are not police officers, but does any of this seem plausible to you ???) Well anyway....Detective William Kelly and Officers James Coombs are investigating the case.

At 11:03 PM on 02/05 Springfield Police were dispatched to Dunmoreland and King Street in the city's Mason Square for another "carjacking". This time the 33 year old male city resident stated that three unknown black males wearing dark clothes carjacked him at the corner of Westford Circle and Dunmoreland Street. The victim claimed that he was selling clothes from the rear of his green 1996 Chevy Suburban when he was approached by the unknown males. One of the perps showed a handgun and told the victim to get out of the van. They robbed the victim of $585.00 cash , his cell phone and his Chevy. Officer Anthony Sowers is Investigating.

Narcotics detectives made a good Cocaine arrest last evening under the direction of
Sgt. Neil Maloney at 7:20 P.M. They arrested the following three suspects:
1) Anthony D. Marsh age 18 of 14 Hughes Street
2) Leslie Evans age 17 of 58 Enfield Street
3) Cody brown age 18 of 82 Jasper Street.....charges....
a) Trafficking in Cocaine 14-28 grms.
b) Violation of a Drug Free School Zone
Cody Brown was also charged with A&B By Means of a Dangerous Weapon (motor vehicle)
If convicted all three face a Mandatory Five years in JAIL...
The Narcs have been on to these three guys for over a month. They conducted their investigation and determined that the three young entrepreneurs were using cell phones to get in contact with their customers and would make "drops" at pre-arranged locations in and around the Forest Park area. After many surveillances the detectives arrested the three last evening. The officers followed  the crew to Murphy's Pop Shop at 74 Island Pond Road. The three were driving a 1999 White Honda Accord. Surveillance officers watched the three make a drug deal with a waiting customer. The surveillance continued and the officers watched the three wash their Honda at the adjacent car wash. While two of them were washing their whip, the other could be seen packaging up more Cocaine. The subject after bagging Cocaine dropped an empty bag in the car wash. The car left and officers examined the bag and it contained Cocaine residue. Officers followed the car to Shawmut Street where they stopped, presumably to make another deal. Officers approached the vehicle with caution. Cody Brown was driving and when he observed the officers approach he put the car in reverse and smashed into the unmarked car driven by Detectives William Catellier and Mark Templeman . The car was stopped and the three were arrested. Recovered from the car was 14.4 grams of packaged Cocaine and $928 in cash. Also recovered was packaging material for Cocaine. The Honda they were driving was seized by the detectives as a conveyance for Narcotics. All three will be arraigned in Springfield later today.

Explosion at Chestnut Accelerated School, 355 Plainfield Street, Springfield
.

FOUND BY THE BOMB SQUAD

At 1:45 P.M. while school was in session two "home made type bombs" were set in a middle stairway of the school. One of the devices went off making a very loud explosion. Another device was close by and did not go off. Officer Roberto Matos of the Springfield Police Department Student Support Unit was at the stairwell within seconds. An Assistant Principle went to the stairwell and touched the piece of the bottle that had exploded causing a minor burn to her arm. The Assistant Principle is fine with no complications after being treated at Baystate Medical Center. Officer Matos pulled the fire alarm and made sure that the school was evacuated immediately. Within ten minutes all the teachers and students were cleared from the school. The students went into nearby Gerena School for shelter. The Arson Squad, Fire Department and Police Department went through the entire school to search for more devices. There were no more found. The other device was detonated inside the stairwell with negative explosions by Detectives Brian Strout and Gary Johnson of the Springfield Police Departments Bomb Squad. Once the school was cleared by the Fire Captain on scene the children were allowed to enter the school at 2:45 P.M. Dismissal time at the school is 2:50 P.M. There were no injuries to any students or teachers. The Principle and teachers with the help of the Springfield Police did a tremendous job clearing the school in an orderly fashion.
The "device" that was placed in the stairwell is known as a "MacGyver Bomb" or an "Acid Bomb". Some type of Acid or drain cleaner is combined with water and aluminum and placed inside a two-liter plastic bottle and left alone. The chemical reaction causes the bottle to expand and explode. There is no telling how long the explosion will take. It could happen within minutes. If somebody is near by it could cause injury or blindness.
The Detectives investigating this incident have a suspect. No arrest has been made at this time.

FRIDAY FEB. 13th

In the ongoing war to rid "Crack Houses" from the City of Springfield the Narcotics Detectives conducted yet another raid yesterday at 1:10 P.M. The raid and investigation was led by Sgt. Robert Tardiff of the Narcotics Unit.
For the past several weeks the Narcs received information and focused their attention on a "Crack House" in full operation at 30 Kendall Street on the first floor. The information they garnered during the course of their investigation was that two "ladies" were running the Crack House and it was 24 hours a day. People addicted to "Crack" would walk into the apartment, buy the Crack and smoke right there in the first floor apartment. The business was run by two females known as "Tony" and "Mayra". During surveillances the Detectives could see that one of the females was constantly acting as a "lookout" for police and potential customers. The investigating officers applied for and were issued a District Court Search Warrant. A "Raid Team" was assembled and 30 Kendall was hit at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday afternoon.
The dwellings door was fortified with steel bars to keep the cops out. Detectives used a "battering ram" to break through the fortress. Once inside the officers found Crack Cocaine packaged for sale, Atavan tablets, Bupropion tablets for sale, packaging material, scales, items to cook the Crack Cocaine. Arrested were the following three ladies....
1) Mayra Rivera age 31 of 30 Kendall Street
