Psy’s ‘Gangnam Style’ reaches one billion YouTube views

South Korean rapper Psy is ending 2012 on another career high – his viral video for “Gangnam Style” has hit one billion views on YouTube.

The catchy song’s promo, featuring his crazy horse-style dance routine, was uploaded on the video streaming website on July 15 and it soon became the most-watched clip ever, surpassing the previous record held by Justin Bieber’s “Baby.”

On Friday the track reached another major milestone, becoming the first video in history to reach the one billion mark.

The shocked 34 year old tells MTV, “I can’t compare it to anything else! In 2012, I experienced so many things; it’s been a tremendous year, but to accomplish this, it’s really something that stands out. Because it all began with YouTube, and to have (the video) reach one billion views… I don’t think even I can break that record!”

It certainly has been quite a year for Psy – he was signed to Scooter Braun’s Schoolboy Records as Bieber’s label mate and asked to perform for U.S. President Barack Obama at the White House earlier this month, while Gangnam Style was recently named the second highest-trending search of 2012 by bosses at Google.
