ZZ Top guitarist Billy Gibbons is seeking to branch out into the world of electronic dance music by hitting the studio with French DJ/producer David Guetta

The legendary “Tush” rocker recently met up with Guetta on the Spanish party island of Ibiza to discuss the thriving music scene and reveals the chat inspired them to work on an unlikely collaborative project.

Gibbons tells Billboard.com, “I wanted to know how they did certain things, and of course they were badgering me to bring the guitar to the forefront.

“They said, ‘Y’know, the only thing missing in dance music is a good guitar player.’ I said, ‘Let’s see if we can bring the two together and make it shake.'”

Gibbons admits their studio sessions have resulted in “eight or 10 cuts” that he hopes to release in the near future and he’s confident fans will appreciate the new sounds.

He adds, “It’s a far cry from what people might expect – ‘Gibbons and electronic stuff?’ (But) a lot of people have overlooked the fact that one of the things that made (ZZ Top’s 1983 album) ‘Eliminator’ so interesting was the opportunity to go into that experimental side of things and fool around with the coolest new toys that could be found in the recording studio. I’m always fascinated by that, so my time in Spain was very fruitful.”
