Lets talk football! The Pats are back in pre-season action and trouncing
all who get in their way. Yes, I know it's just pre-season. But hang in there,
The second week of September is right around the corner. Fantasy season is
back as well. Good luck to all of you armchair QB's. Wings and Nachos and beer will
soon be the order of the day. I know the Pats play "crazy Train" at Gillette Stadium...
What other good "Football is back" kinda tunes are there? comment... -BK

Vacation was a lot of fun.
Went fishing a couple times with some friends. Cleaned up the yard. The house. Washed the dogs. Washed me. But the real eye opener I had was while
watching the first week of Discovery's "Curiosity". The first week had Steven Hawking on. He concluded, by the end of the show, that there could not be a God because time did not exist before the "Big Bang".
So at first i said "There you have it. No God. Smart guy said so."
Then I put some thought into it.
Earlier in the show, Steven Hawking said that "Time slows" when you approach the
center of a Black Hole.
Eventually "time stops" when you reach the center of it. In that case, we are still rolling along in our time while watching time stop in a Black Hole. Why would it be so hard to imagine another "time" or "existance" outside of our own Big Bang?
What's your thought on it? Is there a spirit in the sky? Is Jesus just alright?

Sea monsters are served up next. Last night, after a new episode of
Dealiest Catch on Discovery Channel, was "Hillstranded". Our good friends
Andy and Johnathan Hillstrand went looking for a sea monster up in Alaska.
It was a huge lake. They found something and lost it all in a 1 hour show.
55gal. drums for bobbers. 4,000lb test line. 44cal. ammo. All in all,
everything you would need to kill a true beast.
My question to you is... Do you think it was real?

Finding Bigfoot is a show on animal planet. It follows a bunch of folks around the country looking for...
You guessed it. Bigfoot. Or Bigfoots. Or Bigfeet. whatever the plural would be.
It got me wondering. What would I do if I ran into some creature in the woods. I don't own a gun.
I got a little pocket knife. Boy, would that be a bad day in the woods or what?
Have you seen one? Seems like 1 in 100 people have some kinda story of a run in.
Massachusetts seems to be rather thin on sightings. But, i do remember stories from
October mountain back in the 80's. I think there was a sighting by Eagle pond out that way.

I thought Lorena Bobbitt was bad enough. Now it seems there is another poor soul out there who has lost his penis.
In Garden Grove California, A woman ( Catherine Kieu Becker, 48) drugged her husband.
When he became sleepy and passed out? She tied him down and snip snip. Off came his junk.
That would be bad enough right?!? But no! She had to go the extra mile and stick it
in the garbage disposal. Yikes. Word has it they got married last December and
where going to get a divorce. Hey guys, remember the old days when she would just get
1/2 of everything and perhaps your house?
What would be a good classic rock tune to dedicate to Mr. Beckers John Thomas?

Sure there is still the sentencing to go through, but for the most part casey goes free soon.
Did the justice system fail here? I saw Baez after the trial say something like..."this is an opportunity to
re-examine our justice system and do away with the death penalty. This case proves that it
doesn't belong in the U.S.". Then, after I thought about it, I realized that this is a case where it worked!
Casey had her day in court. She won. She goes free. She doesn't go to death row.
so... The system with the death penalty worked?
What do you think?

The top classic rock guitarists. What order should they be in from
"best" to "least best".
Lets start with these guys...
Clapton.
Beck.
Trower.
Travers.
Young.
Perry.
Richards.
Harrison.
Thorogood.
Springsteen.
Walsh.
Gilmour.
Page.
Santana.
oh yeah... Frampton!

This past weekend i put a whole lotta different things on the fire. One thing i didn't get to was little neck clams.
yummy! You get the grill to full heat, then line those little suckers up right on the grill. Cut the heat to half. Soon as they pop open they are done. Grab'em with metal tongs and turn the clam on it's side to drain what's left of the juice right into the grill. It'll burn off in no time. What's you favorites on the grill? Comment! -BK |

Something to tug on your line to remind you that you're alive.
This morning I was alone in the fog on the Westfield river. It was almost creepy.
Just me, the ducks, muskrats, and a 37 incher that hit my line. This time i kept it.
I will be eating striped bass for at least 10 days now. Look for the pic on the "Bob Kester"

Don't come back another day. Don't bother coming back till September.
With all this wet weather, I ask you... Is there a rainy day song that turns your frown upside down?
For me? "Raindrops keep fallin on my head" by BJ Thomas.
It was in that Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid movie.
So if it's raining and I hear that tune it reminds me of how funny that movie was.

The rain was lurking just around the corner this morning. Yet we still
made it out on the river. The water level is back up again. The water is also muddy again.
The Great One, Pat Kelly, and I went up the Westfield River to avoid that mess. We got all the
way up to the second bridge. (By the Dunkin Donuts where Memorial ave starts in westsringfield)
That's where i hooked into a 31" striper on a 12'' Slug-go. I am posting any pics that I take on my "bob Kester"
page at rock102.com. So... your question for today... Do fish really bite better in the rain? comments... -BK |

Eric Burdon & War: Spill the Wine. (1970)
The Kinks: Sunny Afternoon. (1966)

But at least the rain held off till I was done fishing.
Great news my fellow fisher-folks! The stripers are going full strong.
It took me a couple hours to adjust my retreive speed. And in the end it turned out to be
a 12" slug-go that they fell for. I have also heard stories of them hitting like gangbusters
up the westfield river by Dunkin Donuts. That could be because of the extra high water
this time of year. Otherwise it's a real shallow stream that kills props...
Has anyone else been seeing tight lines? How is the run going up
in Holyoke by the dam? feel free to comment... -BK |

That's what the sign said at Heratage park.
I read about the swan attacks on Masslive.com. This reminds me of what Quint said in jaws.
I had to tweek it a bit. But it sure fits the bill!!
"Y'all know me. Know how I earn a livin'. I'll catch this bird for ya,
but it ain't gonna be easy... Bad bird. It's not like going down to the pond
chasin' blue gills or tommy cots. This swan - swallow ya hole. L'il shakin',
l'il tenderizin', down ya go. Now we gotta do it quick, that'll bring back
the park go-ers and soccer players, that'll put all your businesses on a payin' basis.
But it's not gonna be pleasant! I value my neck a lot more than 3000 bucks! I'll
find him for three, but I'll catch him... and kill him... for ten! Now you
gotta make up your minds. Gonna stay alive and ante up? Or ya wanna play it
cheap, be on welfare the whole summer. I don't want no volunteers; I don't
want no mates. There's too many captains here in East Longmeadow. Ten thousand dollars
for me by myself. For that you get the head, the wings, the whole damn thing.
How much is it for a swan permit? Can you use a swan in a turduckin'? comments? -BK

Well maybe not THAT young but...
I read on Masslive.com that Massachusetts lawmakers are working on a bill that would lower the age at which teenagers can get their learner's permits from 16 to 15 and a half!
Some feel it would give young drivers the chance to get behind the wheel much earlier provided they have a parent or guardian by their side.
It would not change the age at which they can get a junior operator's license, which allows a teenager to driver without a parent. That age is still 16 and a half.
Do you think this is a good idea? Or do you think it would turn your side streets into a scene from Mad Max 4? (which is due out in 2012) |

I find the news of the death of OBL as a somber yet long awaited victory for us. I can't help but think of the reactions going on behind closed doors of those who have lost loved ones on 911, those who have lost loved ones to the lingering illnesses resulting from 911, and also the loved ones lost in battle over the last ten years fighting because of 911. I can't recall the last time song broke out on a N.Y.C. subway. (At least that was not because of a flash mob.) But it happened! That wonderful time when we American's pull together in unity is back. Even if only for a little while. I also love the irony surounding last night's Phillies Mets game. The news first broke in the 9th inning tied 1 - 1. Now? We have to watch out when we travel. No biggie. We do that already. And the last update for ya today?
The Top Ten Most Wanted List has added "deceased" under the #1 guy's picture.
Here's to a great job well done by our military! Best trained in the world. Anyone else want to add something?

The river is still running high. Lots of wind out there too. With the water flowing south and the wind blowing north? We tended to
stay put right where we were. The big danger this morning was lumber. We passed some real big logs working their way downstream. Any other fisher people hooking up with anything yet? -BK

Dialed In looks set as the favorite for the Kentucky Derby in less than two weeks.
The winner of this month's Florida Derby remains No. 1 on The Associated Press' final list of Top 10 Derby contenders. Dialed In leads most other weekly polls as well.
With upsets and injuries to several Derby hopefuls, Dialed In moved to the head of the 3-year-old class last week. The Top 10 is unchanged after two Derby preps over the weekend failed to produce any new contenders.
Risen Star winner Mucho Macho Man is No. 2, followed by Wood Memorial winner Toby's Corner, former No. 1 Uncle Mo and Arkansas Derby winner Archarcharch.
The most recent prominent Derby defection is Jaycito, who is sidelined with a foot bruise.
Horse names are like band names. I think I saw Jaycito in concert at the old Riverside Park! What great band names could be better off used as horse names? -BK
